The Church is enriched through ethnic variety

| May 25, 2010

Our Church is enriched by the cultures of many peoples, and no longer identified with only one geographical area of the earth. Everything that is good and holy in a particular society’s way of life is welcome in the Church.

What has our own contact with diverse ethnic and national groups of people been like? Can we sense some process in this experience?

This past weekend I went to a MuslimFest which was a day of cultural activities and fun for local Muslim families. There was music, food, games, and arts and crafts for purchase from countries around the world. I was invited by a close friend who is Muslim and I felt blessed to experience some of her religious and cultural traditions. I thought of our missionaries in Pakistan and other places where Christians are religious minorities. Though the outer appearances of the people I spent the day with were different from Western norms, I was struck by the unity we share in our values such as family and community.
